Meet Lauren Condina: Library Marketing Student Assistant

Posted in General News, Library Student Assistants, and Students

The Pollak Library and Irvine Campus Library are among the largest employers of student assistants at Cal State Fullerton. We have a long history of recruiting and mentoring talented students from across all majors, and are now actively engaged in the campus-wide strategic goal of developing High Impact Practices (HIPs) for these students to help them better succeed in their educational and professional goals. The work they do for us is invaluable, and our libraries could not deliver the high level of services we provide to our campus community and the public without their efforts and expertise.

Meet Library Marketing student assistant Lauren Condina!

What is your name and student job title?

I am Lauren Condina, one of the Library Marketing student assistants.

In what section or unit of the Pollak Library do you work?

My team is part of Library Administration, located in the 2nd Floor of Library South.

What is your student job in a nutshell?

As a library marketing student assistant, I assist our Marketing Librarian, Colleen Greene. Duties include ongoing library marketing projects, blogging (WordPress), updating our Pollak Library website, and updating our social media accounts.

What are you working on right now?

Currently, I am assisting with new promotional ideas for students and brainstorming upcoming social media and blog posts to inform our students on any library updates or valuable information.

How long have you been at the Pollak Library?

I have worked here since August 2016.

Have you held any other jobs with Cal State Fullerton?

Before I joined the Library Marketing Team, I worked as a Reference Student and Library Administration Assistant. As a Reference Student I assisted the Reference Librarians with mail, shelving, updating Reference materials, and helping maintain the library’s Reference desk. As an Administrative Assistant, I helped with responding to the library wide email, booking events in PLN-130, and providing my assistance to any library staff members or students.

What are your major/degree and/or graduate field, and intended date of completion for your current degree?

I am a Communications major with an emphasis in Advertising and a minor in Cinema/Television Arts. I will be graduating with my B.A. in Communications in Summer 2018.

What career/s are you interested in?

As an Advertising major, I would love to work in the strategy and media departments of an advertising agency. I want to help research and form meaningful relationships between consumers and brands. With my minor in Cinema/Television Arts, I look to apply that to my career by using productions skills to create better brand experiences.

Has your student work at the Pollak Library helped prepare you for your future career field?

Most definitely. My student work in the library has taught me a lot of beneficial skills and ideas. I have learned to work with a variety of people, meet deadlines, organizational skills, professionalism, marketing tactics, and customer service.

What are your passions or interests outside of work and school?

I love music and attending concerts with my friends. I also enjoy traveling and keeping up with my favorite television shows. As I’ve lived in Southern California my whole life I enjoy being outdoors, whether its going to the beach or an adventurous hike.

What is the last book you read, or the last book you loved?

The last book I read was The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood .
