Seeking Nominations for the 2017 Outstanding Librarian and Outstanding Library Staff Awards

Pollak Library is pleased to once again honor its faculty and staff with awards of $1,000 each!

The Pollak Library Faculty and Staff Awards Committee seeks nominations for the Outstanding Librarian Award and Outstanding Library Staff Award.

The Faculty & Staff Awards Program

Interim University Librarian Scott Hewitt initiated this awards program in 2015, along with a concurrent Student Employee Awards program.

The Faculty & Staff Awards program consists of three different awards, with two given out each year.

  • Outstanding Librarian Award (odd-year competition)
  • Librarian-Scholar Award (even-year competition)
  • Outstanding Library Staff Award (annual competition)

Winners are chosen by the Pollak Library Faculty and Staff Awards Committee.

The 2017 Awards

This year, nominations are open for the Outstanding Librarian Award and the Outstanding Library Staff Award.

Outstanding Librarian Award (2017)

The Outstanding Librarian Award is an odd-year competition. All librarians who are not on the Pollak Library Faculty and Staff Awards Committee are eligible. The award recognizes outstanding librarian job performance. Any University employee may nominate a Pollak Library or Irvine Campus Library librarian for the award. Self-nominations will also be considered. Library employees may notify other s outside the library who may wish to nominate a librarian.

To nominate a librarian, send a letter to the chair of the Pollak Library Faculty and Staff Awards Committee, Ann Roll, and illustrate the following:

  • nominee’s exemplary job performance
  • major projects that exceed standard expectations
  • importance of nominee’s contributions.

Outstanding Library Staff Award (2017)

The Outstanding Library Staff Award is an annual competition. Staff not serving on the Pollak Library Faculty and Staff Awards Committee are eligible. The award recognizes outstanding staff job performance. Any University employee may nominate a Pollak Library or Irvine Campus Library staff member for the award. Self-nominations will also be considered. Library employees may notify others outside the library who may wish to nominate a library staff member.

To nominate a staff member, send a letter to the chair of the Pollak Library Faculty and Staff Awards Committee, Ann Roll, and illustrate the following:

  • nominee’s exemplary job performance
  • major projects that exceed standard expectations
  • significance or importance of the nominee’s contributions

Submitting a Nomination

Any University employee who is not currently serving on the Pollak Library Faculty and Staff Awards Committee may nominate a librarian or staff member.

Current members of the Pollak Library Faculty and Staff Awards Committee may not be nominated. Those members are:

  • Ann Roll
  • Cynthia Bruns
  • Donna Rader
  • Dan Phillips
  • John Hickok

To nominate a colleague (or yourself), email the Pollak Library Faculty & Staff Awards Committee Chair, Ann Roll (aroll@fullerton.edu), a letter of up to two pages that addresses the award criteria. Letters are not meant to be exhaustive, but must detail how the librarian or staff member has exceeded usual expectations. Nominators are strongly encouraged to consult with the unit head/department chair/supervisor for the librarian or staff member being nominated for additional detail.

Nominations must be received by 5:00pm on Thursday, March 30, 2017.

Presentation of Awards

Winners will be announced at the annual Pollak Library end-of-the-year celebration in May.
