The Pollak Library and Irvine Campus Library are among the largest employers of student assistants at Cal State Fullerton. We have a long history of recruiting and mentoring talented students from across all majors, and are now actively engaged in the campus-wide strategic goal of developing High Impact Practices (HIPs) for these students to help them better succeed in their educational and professional goals. The work they do for us is invaluable, and our libraries could not deliver the high level of services we provide to our campus community and the public without their efforts and expertise.

Meet Library Exhibits student assistant Anna Coria!

What is your name and student job title?

My name is Anna Coria, and I am a student assistant at Pollak Library.

In what section or unit of the Pollak Library do you work?

I work mainly with the Exhibits program.

What is your student job in a nutshell?

To put it simply, I help put up and maintain the exhibits in the library.  Being a student assistant in the exhibit program consists of a variety of jobs. Those jobs include preparing spaces within the library for exhibits, moving furniture, painting wall, mounting signage, and doing research.  We work internally with different departments in the library as well as other departments on campus.

What are you working on right now?

We currently just finished working on the Olympics exhibit on the first floor of library. We are getting prepared for one of my favorite exhibits, Banned Books.

How long have you been at the Pollak Library?

I’ve been working for the Exhibits program for about 2 years.

Have you held any other jobs with Cal State Fullerton?

I’m also a Customer Service Lead at Titan Shops.

Do you have a favorite accomplishment at the Pollak Library?

There have been many accomplishments while working for the exhibits program at the Pollak Library, but by far my favorite has been my SERMEL exhibit.  I had the great opportunity to curate that exhibit from start to finish.  It is my favorite because it allowed me to look at every aspect of putting an exhibit together, and it has been the one that has challenged me the most.

What are your major/degree and/or graduate field, and intended date of completion for your current degree?

I will be receiving my BA in Art History.  This is my last semester at CSUF and will be completing my degree in December.

What career/s are you interested in?

Ultimately I would like to work for a museum.  I’d like to put on exhibits, work with special collections, and museum conservation.

Has your student work at the Pollak Library helped prepare you for your future career field?

Definitely! I have been fortunate enough to have been able to work with the exhibits program because I’ve learned a lot about what my future career might be.  Although I still have plenty to learn, this job has set me up to be successful in the future.

What are your passions or interests outside of work and school?

When I have free time I enjoy exploring, reading, watching TV, making crafts, and cooking.

What is the last book you read, or the last book you loved?

One of my favorite books is S.E. Hinton’s The Outsiders.
