Posted in About the Library, Academic Communities, Faculty, General News, and Library Faculty & Staff

This fall semester, Joy Sage joined Cal State Fullerton and the Pollak Library as one of our new instruction and reference librarians. We are pleased to welcome her on board!

For those students and faculty who haven’t yet met her at the reference desk, here is a chance to to learn more about Joy.

Pollak Library Work

In what section or unit of the Pollak Library do you work?
I work in the Instruction & Information Services (I&IS) unit.

What is your job in a nutshell so far?
My main responsibilities are working the reference desk, answering Question Point and conducting Instruction sessions (BIs).

What are you working on right now?
I am working on putting together Library Guides for the BIs I have scheduled. Plus, learning to use all the databases available-whew!

Prior Work Experience

Would you like to share a bit about your previous work experience?
I have worked in Queens and New York public library branches, in a women’s prison, and for a for-profit college.

What motivated you to become a librarian or to work in libraries?
I met someone who moved into the place I lived who had come back to school to become a Children’s Librarian. I thought that was a great sounding job. It married the two things I liked most- reading books and kids.

Personal Information

Would you like to share a bit about your educational background?
I received my undergraduate and Master’s degrees from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa (Roll Tide- I know only 3 or 4 of you will understand that.) Many members of my mom’s family went to Alabama, except for my mom.

What are you passions or interests outside of work?
I like to take pictures, although digital takes some of the fun out of it. I also make items for my online jewelry shop ( and craft fairs.
