This August, Jaclyn Bedoya — Senior Assistant Librarian — joined Cal State Fullerton and the Pollak Library as our new electronic resources librarian.
For those students and faculty who haven’t yet met her at the reference desk, here is a chance to to learn more about Jacklyn since the majority of her work takes place “behind the scenes” of the library.
Pollak Library Work
When did you start working for the Pollak Library?
At the beginning of the school year, like most other new faculty.
In what section or unit of the Pollak Library do you work?
Collection & Processing Services (CPS), Serials & Electronic Resources
What is your job in a nutshell so far?
Provide library users access to a wide variety of electronic resources. This can mean everything from setting them up, to doing troubleshooting, to monitoring to make sure we’re using our resources effectively. I also work a couple of hours a week on the reference desk, to see problems from the user perspective.
Prior Work Experience
Would you like to share a bit about your previous work experience?
I’ve worked all over – in a university in Scotland, as a reference librarian at CSU Northridge, as a young adult librarian in East Los Angeles, and teaching English in Japan.
What motivated you to become a librarian or to work in libraries?
I like being in a profession where you constantly need to learn new technologies and techniques. Plus, it’s a service profession – I love that my job is all about helping other people!
What are your passions or interests outside of work?
I love traveling, cooking, and playing with my two year old. Over the summer we went to Scotland for three weeks, and my son had less jet lag than I did!
What is the last book you read, or the last book you loved?
I can’t wait to read the new Haruki Murakami and Terry Pratchett novels. With the 2 year old and a new job, though, who knows when that will be.
